Looking to elevate your next big event? Whether you’re planning a glittering New Year’s Eve bash, a wild bachelorette party, or a milestone graduation, nothing says “celebration” like a champagne bottle.

But let’s be honest: store-bought piñatas are often tiny and flimsy. If you wanted a custom-made piñata of this size, personalized with your own message, you would easily have to pay hundreds of dollars for a professional commission.

Today, I’m showing you how to make a champagne piñata that is bigger, stronger, and more stylish than anything you’ll find in a party aisle—all for a fraction of the cost using my Instant Download Printable Template.

1. Print and Assemble the Template

Download and print the template from my store. Simply assemble the pages using tape and cut along the outline. This template creates a piñata that is 31 cm wide x 55cm high / 12in wide x 22in high, significantly larger than standard store-bought versions, ensuring it stands out in photos.

2. Transfer to Cardboard

Trace the template onto your cardboard. You will need to cut two identical panels: one for the front and one for the back.

3. Build the Sides

Cut strips of cardboard for the sides. I recommend a width of 12cm (approx. 5 inches) to give your bottle that “premium” depth and plenty of room for candy.

4. Attach to the Back Panel

Using hot glue or tape, attach the side strips to the back panel all around.

5. Add the Rope and Candy Door

Before closing the bottle, insert your rope for hanging. This is also the perfect time to cut a small flap for your “candy door.”

6. Close and Reinforce

Glue the front panel on. If you’re filling this with heavy treats for a big celebration, reinforce the seams with extra tape for durability.

7. Draw Your Guide Lines

Draw a line where your two colors meet (the “foil” neck and the “glass” bottle). Also, mark where your custom label will go—since this area will be covered by the label later, you don’t need to waste time fringing it!

8. Fringe and Decorate

Starting from the bottom and working your way up, cover the sides and back with fringe paper.

9. Apply Your Custom Labels

Choose from the 9 designs included in the download. Since these are fully customizable, you can print a “Happy Birthday,” a “Hens Party,” or a specific name. Glue on the label, neck ribbon, and emblem.

10. The Final Flourish (Optional Tassel)

To make your bottle look truly “top shelf,” make a tassel:

  • Fold a sheet of paper lengthwise, glue a string in the fold, and fold again.
  • Cut thin strips to create the fringe, then give it a good shake to fluff it up.
  • Glue it to the top or tie it to the hanging rope. Add holographic ribbon for extra sparkle!
  • For an extra fluffy tassel, use 2 sheets of paper layered on top of each other, double in half, and glue the string inside the fold.
