Stitch Piñata: Where To Get One + The Easiest DIY Option You Haven’t Tried Yet

Stitch is a TOP trend in 2025 for kids birthdays — he’s cute, chaotic, and after the new Lilo & Stitch movie release in 2025, kids became completely obsessed with this adorable, flurry alien creature!

Suddenly every second child wants a full Stitch birthday theme this year, inclusive of a pinata to match the chaos! Which is great… except one big problem: Stitch piñatas are selling out everywhere.
If you’re planning a Stitch-themed birthday and you’re trying to find a Stitch piñata… you’ve probably already noticed something:
- they sell out so fast
- the expandable ones available at supermarkets lack the wow factor are not worth the $$$
- on theother hand, the custom ones sold on Etsy are beautiful but $$$
- and your local piñata makers are probably booked out weeks in advance
So what do you do when you want something special for your Stitch party… but you can’t find the perfect piñata in time?

There is another option most people don’t even know exists.
You can make this adorable, semi-3D Stitch piñata at home — AND it’s genuinely easy even if you’ve never made one before.
To make things super easy, I created a printable template.
This template gives you pre-measured pieces and a step-by-step tutorial so you can finish a party-ready piñata in a few hours, without the stress and the mess!

The template is ready to print, no need to resize anything, just send straight to your printer and start making your piñata right away.
By following the step-by-step tutorial, you can finish a party-ready piñata in a few hours, without the stress and the mess!
This is the exact same template I used in the tutorial video — so you can follow step-by-step without guessing.
What size should a Stitch piñata be?

Most kids parties use a piñata between 40cm – 50cm tall.
This size looks great in photos, fits plenty of candy, and is not bulky.
My printable template is sized for these exact measurements:
45cm H / 40cm W / 13cm D
17.7 in H / 15.7 in W / 5.1 in D
Why DIYing your Stitch piñata is a great alternative
- Is super affordable. A store bought expandable pinata will cost you around $30 or more, and a custom made will be at least $80. You can make your own for less than $5 in materials.
- Is surprisingly easy (even if you’ve never made one before!), and can be made in one afternoon
- You don’t have to wait weeks for shipping (nor pay for shipping!)
- If you prefer, you can easily make it a pull-string pinata (check out this tutorial)
What materials do I need?
The materials are very affordable and easy to get:
- tissue or crepe paper in shades of blue + pink
- a regular cardboard box ( i.e. Amazon box)
- a thin cardboard box (i.e. cereal)
- packing tape
- glue stick and hot gplue gun
- plastic bags or recycled newspaper to create volume
- You can reuse leftover plastic bags + scrap cardboard (cheap + eco friendly)
How it works

- Download the printable Stitch template
- Print and cut out the pieces
- Trace them onto cardboard
- Assemble the base with tape or hot glue
- Cover it with crepe paper fringe or tissue layers
- Glue the color elements (i.e. eyes, mouth, etc.)
- Fill it with treats, and it’s ready to hang
It’s easy, cheap and super fun!
